In Defense of 2020: 20 Good Things That Happened This Year

Well, we’ve almost made it. I sit here on the 20th day of the final month of the 20th year of the 20th century 21st century. To say 2020 has been a year for the record books would be equivalent to me telling you that the Earth is round. Or that there are 24 hours in a day. Or that mashed potatoes are delicious. It’s so obvious and doesn’t need to be said, but alas, I’ve said it.

I’m Targeting 1 Percent Comp Growth in 2018

Comp growth. I almost rolled my own eyes just writing it. If any of you have ever worked for a consumer goods or services company, then you know that ‘comp sales is life.’ I cannot tell you how many hours I’ve spent stressing over comp sales in my professional career.

For those of you that are fortunate enough to never be sucked in to the  ‘comp sales’ tornado, comps are essentially a way of measuring year over year growth. For example, if I make $20 on Tuesday, and subsequently make $22 on that same Tuesday of the following year, I have effectively achieved 10% comp sales growth. New Year, 1 (Very New) Blog

Well, it’s 2018. And with the new year comes perhaps my most ambitious resolution yet: to start a blog. I’ll be honest – I’ve wanted to enter the blogosphere for years now, because hey, I like to write. However, the fear of coming off as ‘uninteresting’ and ‘lame’ has always deterred me.

For the past several weeks, I’ve racked my brain. What would people want to read about? What would be my hook? After doing some soul-searching here’s what I’ve concluded: I have no ‘hook.’ There isn’t one topic that consumes my brain. No single theme in which I can speak to the ins and outs. Rather, my brain is filled with a multitude of thoughts, not different from, I’m sure, any other woman in her 30’s: friendships, family, relationships, career, pop culture, sports, cooking, drinking, current events, body weight health and fitness, home improvements, etc. At times, it’s a mess.  Continue reading “New Year, 1 (Very New) Blog”
