New Year, 1 (Very New) Blog

Well, it’s 2018. And with the new year comes perhaps my most ambitious resolution yet: to start a blog. I’ll be honest – I’ve wanted to enter the blogosphere for years now, because hey, I like to write. However, the fear of coming off as ‘uninteresting’ and ‘lame’ has always deterred me.

For the past several weeks, I’ve racked my brain. What would people want to read about? What would be my hook? After doing some soul-searching here’s what I’ve concluded: I have no ‘hook.’ There isn’t one topic that consumes my brain. No single theme in which I can speak to the ins and outs. Rather, my brain is filled with a multitude of thoughts, not different from, I’m sure, any other woman in her 30’s: friendships, family, relationships, career, pop culture, sports, cooking, drinking, current events, body weight health and fitness, home improvements, etc. At times, it’s a mess.

So, here’s my promise to you, my reader (and hopefully, readers): honesty. Honesty will be my hook. There are so many times that I’ve wanted to share my thoughts with others, wondering if anyone out there thinks or feels like me. If anyone has had similar experiences. Yet, as many of us do, I’ve never had the confidence to share some of my most inner thoughts and experiences on social media. Social media has become a platform for sharing the perfections of life, only the happiest moments. Only the moments that we know our friends will ‘like.’ Blogging, however, offers a certain level of anonymity that social media doesn’t. It allows us to speak freely and find others, outside of our social circle, that relate to us in different ways.

I’ve spent time reflecting on some of my favorite bloggers, like The Bloggess and Skinny Meg, and I’ve concluded this: the most interesting and influential writers aren’t afraid to speak their truths. Whether it’s sharing the pains of enduring a social disorder, or telling the world the embarrassing details of personal weight gain, they write in ways that I can somehow relate to, from the depths of my core.

And so, I hope to write to you in the same manner – openly, honestly, and without fear of judgement.

Happy new year, my friends; it’s going to be a good one 🥂
